Slovak automotive industry has a positive three years ahead of it

The Slovak automotive industry has a positive three years ahead of it, reckons Alexander Matušek, head of the local automotive union ZAP. All four car plants have secured their production programs, the share of electric models is rising and investments keep flowing. Production volumes will reach record levels and a new carmaker, Volvo, will launch production in 2027. The sector faces three challenges―shortages of labor and industrial waste recycling capacity, as well as rising labor and energy costs. Matušek condemned the government for increasing health levies and calls for relaxation of rules on importing workers. He is not calling for the construction of waste incinerators, which Environment Minister Tomas Taraba backs, but for faster approval for recycling capacity.
