Slovenské elektrárne swung from a €255m loss in 2022 to last year's net profit of €559m

Power generator Slovenské elektrárne swung from a €255m loss in 2022 to last year's net profit of €559m. It reduced its debt burden by €139m to €4.1bn. It benefited from launching the third unit of the Mochovce nuclear power plant and the closure of the Nováky and Vojany coal-fired plants. This year, it expects a profit comparable to or higher than in 2023, to be used to cover retained losses and reduce debt. It plans to start loading fuel into Mochovce unit 4 in 2025. SE warns of massive early retirements of its staff and rising nuclear fuel prices. In the past, €5.5 of fuel produced 1 MWh, now the price is €16. SE plans to invest in extending the lifetime of its nuclear power plants to 80 years.
