RÚ to hold 5G frequency auction in May
RÚ, a telecoms regulator, will in May hold an auction for 3.5-3.8 GHz frequencies telecoms operators will use mainly for their 5G networks. It expects a revenue of €60m and will allocate the frequencies so as to prevent a single operator grabbing all of them. At present, Orange, O2, 4ka (Swan), Slovanet, and Slovak Telekom hold licenses for these frequencies until 2024-25, and new licenses will be issued until 2045. Operators will compete for frequencies in an electronic auction and the only criterion will be price.
