Parliament approved a temporary VAT cut from 20% to 10% on hotels, restaurants, ski lifts, and other sports facilities during the first quarter of 2023. The government estimated the revenue shortfall at €25m. The lower VAT could remain permanently if restaurants and other businesses honestly report sales, Finance Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO) said earlier. Currently, he said, only 35% of sales in restaurants are reported.
