Only irresponsible companies worry about rising power prices
Slovenské elektrárne, a power generator controlled by EPH, has sold all its 2022 output by the end of this summer at an average price of €50 per MWh and will not profit from the current spike in power prices next year, said Branislav Strýček, its CEO. He says this is a responsible strategy and that those industrial companies that employed a similar conservative strategy now don’t have to worry about energy prices. Strýček therefore opposes any government compensation for energy prices to corporate customers, believing instead that the government should only compensate some of them for the rising price of emissions allowances. At the end of this year, SE wants to have sold 15% of its 2024 output, and 30-40% of its 2023 output. The power price spike is caused by a natural gas shortage in Europe and more expensive emission allowances.
