Old photovoltaic power plants are profitable

Of renewable energy sources, photovoltaic power plants have had the highest profit margins (net profit vs sales) for the past five years, 22-28%, according to Finstat data. Hydro (3%) and gas (5-10%) power plants have had lower but stable profit margins in the last six years. On the contrary, biomass (minus 9-20%) and biogas (minus 8-11%) power plants have been posting losses. As many as 13 out of 52 biogas stations have tax and levy arrears. Slovenské elektrárne, the dominant power generator, has had a 1-2% profit margin in recent years.
