OFZ plans to start production in Uzbekistan in mid-2025
Ferroalloy firm OFZ (Vladimír Klocok) plans to start production in Uzbekistan in the summer of 2025, moving some of its technology there. It has already signed a contract for a favorable purchase of an existing production site. It would not specify the amount of the investment. The advantage of Uzbekistan is the absence of emission allowances, easy exports to Europe, and cheap electricity priced at €30-40 per MWh. Its local partner is Uz-Shindong Silicon. OFZ will retain six of the current seven production furnaces in Slovakia; just three are currently in operation. In addition to Uzbekistan, OFZ is also considering a €70-100m investment in a new plant in Africa. (hnonline.sk) This year, the company expects to break even on €70-80m sales.
