New legislation will speed up permitting process for highways

Parliament passed a new Act on Extraordinary Measures for Strategic Investments to speed up the permitting process for projects identified by the government as important. This will only apply to investments above €50m financed from public sources or as a public-private partnership. The changes will affect land expropriation, public procurement, and building permits for highways, railways, and industrial parks.

The Act gives the government the right to appoint and dismiss the chairman of ÚÚPV, a zoning and building authority, a power currently resting with the parliament.
