Justice Ministry plans a reform of criminal sentencing

The Justice Ministry plans a reform of criminal sentencing. Recently, courts have imposed a 12-year prison sentence for possessing a small dose of marihuana, 15 years for killing a journalist, and 19 years for forging €70m bills. It remains to be seen whether the coalition cuts drug sentencing. The Ministry will try to cut sentences for economic crimes and lesser violent crimes and impose higher penalties for members of organized criminal groups. It will also push for a greater use of alternative sentences (house arrest or community service) and fines.
