Jaguar Land Rover will produce electric vehicles in Nitra

The Jaguar Land Rover car plant in Nitra will start producing electric vehicles by 2030. The British carmaker will invest €17bn in the transformation of its plants around the globe by then, but details for the 5,000-strong plant in Nitra have not yet been disclosed. (sme.sk)

The arrival of the Jaguar Land Rover car plant in Nitra increased wages and employment in the automotive industry in Slovakia. However, it did not bring faster job creation, higher wage growth, or higher growth in company sales in Nitra compared to the rest of Slovakia, says the Financial Policy Institute. One of the reasons was that the potential of the labor and industrial markets in Nitra was exhausted when the plant launched production. New jobs were thus created at the expense of other places in the region. However, one-fifth of the car plant's employees are people who did not have jobs before JLR came to Nitra.
