Huge subsidies for "green" energy
In 2021-30, about €400m will fund new “green” power plants and another €1bn investments into greener heat production, the Environment Ministry proposed, to cut greenhouse emissions. The European Commission is now reviewing the plan. The investments will be partly funded by the sale of emission allowances, prices of which have recently spiked; the actual volume of subsidies may therefore grow. The Ministry has already published a preliminary list of projects that would apply for funding. It is dominated by state-owned heating plants and companies owned by Veolia, which is the largest private group in the Slovak heat sector.
