Helping the poor is unpopular in Slovakia

Over the past 16 years, when mainly leftist and center-left governments were in power, social benefits for people in material need increased by only 27%, while consumer prices rose by 54%. At the same time, the minimum wage soared by 156% and the average pension by 90%. Helping the poor is unpopular in Slovakia, partly because there are many Roma among them.
