Government to cap number of foreign workers

Before the elections, the government will introduce a cap on the number of foreign workers, strengthen the foreign police and adopt further immigration rules, PM Robert Fico announced. Although companies cannot fill 130,000 vacancies with unemployment at 4%, the labor market cannot take precedence over the safety of Slovaks, Fico said. His government has gradually eased work permit rules for foreigners. Slovakia now employs 11,000 Indians, roughly triple the number two years ago, making them the second-largest group after Ukrainians.
