Evonik of Germany has launched construction of a new €100m plant in its Slovak subsidiary, Evonik Fermas, in Slovenská Ľupča. The plant will make biosurfactants, environmentally-friendly additives in household cleaners and in personal hygiene products. Unilever will buy the entire output after production starts in mid-2023. Since 1993, the plant has been producing amino acids for livestock feed, but now Evonik is moving their production to cheaper territories in Asia. The new investment will preserve the plant’s current 250 jobs and add 100 new ones. It has not applied for investment incentives due to lengthy bureaucracy. The plant recently started the production of food proteins, which helped increase sales by 37% to €38m last year. Its net profit gradually decreased from €2.2m in 2015 to last year's €1.4m.
