A month ago, the EU presented a mining action plan, aiming to provide €2bn to stimulate mining of critically important ores it imports now. In Slovakia, it identified seven promising locations―Dúbrava, Pezinok, Rudňany, Kokava nad Rimavicou, Dobšiná, Ľubietová and Brezno. The areas include antimony, cobalt, barite, graphite, cobalt and rare earth elements, used in making batteries. The EU wants to make sure the toughest environmental standards are adhered to. Slovakia has no specific plans for mining in the areas.
