Corruption probe into Mario Hoffmann halted
The Attorney General's Office, following a penal code reform that cut sentences for corruption and shortened statutes of limitations, ordered police to halt a corruption probe into Mario Hoffmann’s effort to build a luxury resort in the Caribbean. Authorities in Slovakia, the UK, and the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos were investigating his €6m loan/bribe to local politicians in 2006. The UK dropped prosecution after Hoffmann's €7m donation to the islands.
