BWSG and Kooperativa given rental apartment contracts

The government approved pilot contracts with investors BWSG and Kooperativa to secure 9,000 rental apartments worth €1.5bn. Deputy PM Štefan Holý (Sme rodina) expects more similar contracts in February. New rental housing authority will by the end of the year launch a website with information for those interested in rental apartments. Different conditions are set for each region and for each of the four types of apartments. Part of the apartments will go to select groups, such as teachers. The state subsidizes the scheme through a preferential 5% VAT rate. In the absence of employers' contribution, rents will be close to a market level. The state contracts guarantee investors 50-year profits.
