Banks tripled their profits in 1H
Commercial banks posted a €372m net profit during the first half of this year, a massive increase compared to just €126m in 1H20, reported the central bank NBS. During the first half of 2020, banks were paying the special banking levy and creating reserves against bad loans. Thanks to reducing the reserves, banks’ profit is higher even when compared to 1H19 (€346m). The banks’ interest revenue fell 3% to €808.7m and fee revenue rose 6% to €410m.
