Aluminum smelter Slovalco will not resume production in two years

Aluminum smelter Slovalco is not negotiating with Slovenské elektrárne about a long-term power supply contract, said Penta partner Marián Slivovič (Penta has a minority stake in the smelter). It believes in a better negotiating position when the fourth Mochovce nuclear power plant bloc is launched and SE will face a surplus of electricity. Current government support is insufficient to restart production that was suspended in January 2023 amid high power prices.
