Adria is too expensive
Janaf, a Croatian state-owned firm, charges €17 per ton for transporting crude oil through the Adria pipeline, which is 6-times what Czech or Slovak pipeline operators charge, E daily sources say. For Slovnaft, this means an extra €80m a year. Economy Minister Karel Hirman has already discussed the issue with Croatia. Slovnaft warns that the high fees will be reflected in fuel prices. Adria is so far the only route through which Slovnaft can import non-Russian oil. Moreover, Janaf is still not working on increasing Adria's capacity; it currently amounts to 6m tons per year, which is Slovnaft's annual consumption. The Austrians and Czechs also want to use the pipeline, though.
