ÚRSO to check subsidies heating plant in Považská Bystrica received

Regulator ÚRSO has launched an audit into subsidies the large heating plant in Považská Bystrica has received since 2012 for the combined production of heat and electricity. In 2015, oligarch Ivan Kmotrík sold the plant to Infracapital, part of the UK group Prudential. In 2017, the subsidies peaked at €16.2m, but they fell to just €8.1m in 2018 and €6m last year. ÚRSO says the high past subsidies might be the result of incorrect data submitted by the plant. Its management explains the drop in output, and hence the subsidies, by the loss of a large industrial heating customer, a 100-day production stoppage due to maintenance, and a reduction in unit subsidies.
