Banks might write off €120m loans due to the pandemic

About 9% of those households that requested loan payment deferrals will have problems repaying their loans once the deferral ends, according to a central bank NBS survey. These are 3,600 households; some 750,000 Slovak households have bank loans, of whom 40,000 requested the deferral. The latter group mostly comprises sole traders. Banks might therefore be forced to write off loans totaling €120m. The survey showed that 60% of indebted households posted a drop in income during the pandemic.
