Igor Matovič presented members of his new government

Igor Matovič presented members of his new government: his OĽaNO party will have ministers of Finance (Eduard Heger), Interior (Roman Mikulec), Health (Marek Krajčí), Defense (Jaroslav Naď), Agriculture (Ján Mičovský), Environment (Ján Budaj) and Culture (Natália Milanová). Sme rodina has a Deputy PM for Legislation (Štefan Holý) and ministers of Transport (Andrej Doležal) and Labor (Milan Krajniak). SaS nominated Richard Sulík as Deputy PM for Economy (he will also serve as Economy Minister) as well as ministers of Education (Branislav Gröhling) and Foreign Affairs (Ivan Korčok). Za ľudí will have Deputy PM for Investments and Regional Development (Veronika Remišová) and Justice Minister (Mária Kolíková).

Although the Interior Ministry is responsible for a large chunk of the public administration, its new head, Roman Mikulec, is former director of the military intelligence service VSS. His main task will be to root out corruption in the police and intelligence services; the current Police Chief Milan Lučanský will be replaced. Eduard Heger spent most of his professional carrier selling spirits. Andrej Doležal used to work for the RTVS and Markíza television stations. A single party will nominate both ministers and their deputies, giving up the idea of cross-party control. One of the government’s top priorities will be building cheap rental housing.
