Hotels expand in response to growing demand and employment in the accommodation sector was 12.4% higher annually in September, according to the statistics office ŠÚ data. This was the highest growth of all sectors. The demand is rising on the back of improving living standards and introduction of travel vouchers. The number of local tourists was 23% higher annually in August and hotels’ sales are growing at a similar pace. The sector’s wages were 7.8% higher in September, also due to higher pay for weekend and holiday work. Hotels complain that such wage growth is unsustainable.
