The government forecasts a public finance deficit of 0.7% of GDP for this year and 0.5% of GDP for 2020. Last year, it had planned on a balanced budget for both years. The government will discuss the 2020 state budget today. By law, it must submit the budget to the Slovak parliament and the EU by October 15. Analysts warn the budget will be based on some fictitious assumptions. For instance, the social insurer SP’s draft budget includes unrealistic underestimates of spending on benefits and wages.
