Labor unions in Jaguar Land Rover are demanding a 15% wage hike
Labor unions in the Nitra car plant of Jaguar Land Rover are demanding a 15% wage hike in negotiations of a new Collective Agreement. They argue that the plant pays lower wages compared to the three other car plants in Slovakia. The average wage in Volkswagen Bratislava is €1,950 and in PSA Trnava €1,400. Higher wages might save the company the cost of training since as many as 870 workers have already left the plant, which launched production in October 2018 and currently employs 2,200.
The plant is getting ready to launch the production of a second model, Defender, at a time when demand for luxury cars is soft, mainly in China.
