Justice was for sale and some people could buy it with the help of select judges, prosecutors and policemen, said President Zuzana Čaputová. She added that keeping Deputy Justice Minister Monika Jankovská (Smer) in her job is untenable given suspicions of her communication with Marian Kočner. She criticized the vetting of journalists and prosecutors by the police and defended the investigators of Ján Kuciak’s murder. This was her sharpest critique of the ruling coalition since she took office ten weeks ago.

PM Peter Pellegrini (Smer) won’t demand Jankovská’s resignation. He says the police should first check whether she had “unlawful or toxic communication“ with Kočner. In a carefully crafted statement, he said Jankovská might consider resigning voluntarily.
