Slovakia may thwart EU-US treaty on recognition of drug production licenses
Slovakia is the very last country not meeting the conditions of an EU-US treaty on mutual recognition of drug production licenses. The USA does not trust the standards of the local drug authority ŠÚKL and Slovakia has not adopted all required legislation. Eye drop maker Unimed Pharma passed all ŠÚKL quality tests with flying colors in the past, but when US experts came to check its production facility last year, the company was forced to stop production (and has not resumed it as yet). If Slovakia does not meet the US requirements by mid-July, the EU-US treaty will be blocked. The treaty will facilitate the entry of EU drugs to the US and vice versa.
