Maroš Šefčovič had the most expensive presidential campaign

Maroš Šefčovič had the most expensive presidential campaign (€764,000), followed by Robert Mistrík (€700,000) and Zuzana Čaputová (€650,000), according to official candidates’ reports and their compulsory transparent campaign accounts. Šefčovič paid a large share of his campaign bills after the election. Thanks to this, during the election, he could bend the truth by saying his opponent was the “candidate of big money”. Money did not win the Slovak presidential election, though.

Some 48% of Slovaks are happy with the outcome of the recent presidential election, and another 46% is dissatisfied, according to a Focus agency poll. Zuzana Čaputová won the election with 58% of the vote and a 40% turnout. A similar poll five years ago showed a similar rate of satisfaction with Andrej Kiska’s election and he is still the most trusted Slovak politician.
