Real estate prices in Bratislava surpassed the previous 2008 peak

The price of residential real estate was up 7% annually in the first quarter, to €1,494 per sqm, reported NBS. The price is still below the 2008 peak of €1,549. The price in Bratislava (€2,053), though, has surpassed the 2008 peak of €2,019. The price in Košice was down 4% to €1,035. NBS thinks the price growth is in line with overall economic development and household income, and prices are not in the ’bubble’ territory. In Bratislava and Košice, though, prices are so high that mortgage payments test the limits of households’ financial firepower. NBS expects further growth in prices in coming months.
