Approved cap on pension age will cut future pensions by 17%

The Smer and SNS parties, three MPs for Most-Híd, Sme rodina, ĽSNS and a group of independent MPs approved a constitutional amendment that caps the pension age at 64. Women will have their pension age reduced for every child. Parliament thereby abolished the most important reform of the first Robert Fico government, deteriorated the long-term sustainability of public finances, and cut future pensions by 17% (as calculated by the fiscal responsibility council RRZ). The current system will increase the pension age to 64 years around 2030. Then, the new parliament might do away with the cap.

Ahead of the 2014 presidential election, Smer teamed up with KDH to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Robert Fico lost the election anyway. Today, parliament will discuss the refusal of the Istanbul Convention, which, the Church claims, imposes ’gender ideology’.
