Number of new asset forfeitures plummeted
The number of new asset forfeitures cases plummeted by two thirds to 138,000 last year, reported the bailiffs association SKE. Large companies stopped using forfeitures after new legislation in 2017 introduced random allocation of cases and companies no longer chose their bailiffs. They now either sell the unpaid debts, or use the services of collection agencies. The number of forfeitures had been falling even before 2017, though, and is also falling in neighboring countries. One of the reasons is the increasing protection of debtors at the expense of creditors.
