Education Ministry plans to liberalize foreign language teaching at basic schools
German companies welcome the Education Ministry’s plans to liberalize foreign language teaching at basic schools. Since 2012, English has been mandatory for all pupils; starting on September 1, 2019, they will be free to choose from the English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian languages. The German firms say the German language enhances job prospects. Data of profesia.sk, though, show that 97,000 job offers last year required English and only 25,000 German.
