Parliament approved Peter Kažimír as a candidate for NBS Governor
Parliament approved Finance Minister Peter Kažimír (Smer) as a candidate for central bank NBS Governor, and Jozef Hudák for the post of Deputy Governor. The club of economic analysts protested Kažimír’s nomination, fearing for NBS’s political independence. Hudák’s weakness is lack of experience in banking. His first idea was to set up a new health insurer overseen by NBS, although health insurers are supervised by regulator ÚDZS.
It is up to President Andrej Kiska whether to appoint the candidates; he has the right to turn them down.
