Slovakia is as meritocratic a country as Denmark
Slovakia is as meritocratic a country as Denmark, Norway and Finland, according to the Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Institute. Slovak children with average earning parents have the same chance for above-average income as children in the above countries. Slovak children from the poorest families are an exception: they are in a poverty trap.
Workers who came to Bratislava from other Slovak regions earn 20-25% more compared to those born in Bratislava. This points at low labor mobility, as only those people with the best labor market prospects decide to move.
