Train tenders
The Transport Ministry plans to call a tender to run trains between Žilina and Rajec and between Košice and Moldava nad Bodvou next year. Since 2011, trains between Bratislava and Komárno have been run by private carrier RegioJet, and the state-owned carrier ŽS Slovensko has held a monopoly on all other routes. Gradually the ministry wants to call tenders for 35 rail lines.
Last year, the Ministry canceled the planned tender for the Bratislava – Banská Bystrica line, despite eight private as well as state-owned carriers showing an interest.
