Bratislava VW plant made 7% fewer cars

The Bratislava plant of Volkswagen assembled 362,000 cars in 2017, 7% fewer than in 2016. Of the total, 57% were SUV models VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne and the rest small city cars VW up!, Škoda Citigo and Seat Mii. This year, the plant will launch the production of the Audi Q8. The drop in output is due to the plant preparing for the production of new models. The plant’s sales stagnated at €7.6bn, and its pre-tax profit rose 3% to €240m. Investments tumbled 33% to €367m compared to the record-breaking €550m in 2016. It added 1,400 workers and increased its payroll to 13,700. It is in the process of hiring another 500 workers.
