Embraco moves jobs from Italy to Slovakia
Two weeks ahead of the general election, the Italian government is putting up a fight to keep 500 jobs the Brazilian compressor maker Embraco (part of US Whirlpool) is moving from Italy to Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia. The Italian government asked the EU to investigate Slovakia’s provision of illegal state aid to encourage the move. The EU asked for more information. Embraco confirmed it is closing the Italian plant but would not say where it is moving. The Slovak Economy Ministry announced that the Slovak Embraco plant is not getting any state assistance, and has not asked for any.
