The Transport Ministry is preparing legislation allowing the use of mobile applications as taxi meters, according to sources of the Sme daily. The Ministry declined to comment. New legislation aims to put taxi services and apps such as Uber, Hopin and Liftago on equal footing. Finance Minister Peter Kažimír and Deputy PM Peter Pellegrini (both Smer) have been advocating such a change for some time. The Ministry began preparing the new legislation after an EU Court of Justice ruling at the end of last year that Uber must adhere to rules pertinent to taxi services. Uber is welcoming the new rules. It has about 55,000 clients in Bratislava.
