Meritocratic Slovakia

By international standards, Slovakia is a relatively meritocratic country, i.e., children’s income is not too dependent on their parents’ income. One exception, though, is the poorest communities, mostly Roma, where poverty is heritable. As adults, almost half of children from the poorest families are among the 20% lowest earners, shows Finance Ministry data.
