Železiarne Podbrezová in the black in 2026 after years of losses

Steel pipe maker Železiarne Podbrezová, owned by its managers, posted a loss of €46m in 2024-25, but was already profitable in the first half of this year, according to management. The improvement was driven by new EU measures against steel imports, higher sales and better utilization of production capacity. The 3,000-strong company warns that demand for steel remains weak in the EU's automotive, energy, engineering and construction sectors. It expects order volumes to rise and capacity utilization to improve in 2H.
