Yeme (Peter Varmuža), a chain of seven premium food stores, posted a net profit of €0.5m last year and its sales fell 2% to €38.2m. This was the first higher profit in eight years of operation. Varmuža says the profit is not due to price increases but "internal improvements." This year, it is aiming for a €1m profit. Only one new store is to be added over the next three years, in the new Vydrica district. Marek Turčan, a business partner of ex-minister Robert Kaliňák, financed the chain’s launch.
Of large retailers, only Metro published last year's results. Its net profit stood at €1.6m and its sales were up 19% to €495.1m.
