US firm Westinghouse confirmed interest in building a 1,200 MW nuclear reactor in Jaslovské Bohunice. The Slovak-US intergovernmental agreement paving the way for this cooperation has been approved by the US and the EU and is expected to be signed in the coming weeks. For geopolitical reasons, the Slovak government ruled out cooperation with Russia and China, while South Korea pulled out of foreign projects under an agreement with Westinghouse following a dispute over intellectual property. Korea signed a contract with Czechia to build a new unit before this agreement. This leaves only France and the US as options for Slovakia. The US also offered to help finance the project. Westinghouse declined to comment on the cost. It plans to build 25 reactors in Europe, including three in Poland, two in Bulgaria, and nine in Ukraine. (postoj.sk)

France's EdF confirmed interest in building a new reactor in Slovakia and said it would participate in a potential tender. However, the government does not plan to call a tender. Economy Minister Denisa Saková said EdF lacks capacity as it is building nuclear reactors in France.
