German automotive supplier Webasto is considering the construction of a new plant in Lozorno, near the Volkswagen car plant, that would assemble batteries for electric cars, HN daily sources say. The batteries are to be installed in SUV models produced by the VW plant (Audi Q7 and Q8, VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne). The plant has so far produced only hybrid, not electric, SUV models. Porsche is also building a new plant for electric car battery assembly near Piešťany.
Webasto already has a plant in Slovakia, near Dunajská Streda. The 700-strong plant manufactures roof systems for convertibles, heating and cooling systems, solutions for charging and battery systems for electric cars.
