VV called tender for modernization of Gabčíkovo hydropower plant turbines

Vodohospodárska výstavba (VV), a state-owned energy firm, called a tender for the modernization of the Gabčíkovo hydropower plant turbines and wants to apply for EU funds. An urgent need for their modernization was given by then PM Robert Fico in 2015 as the reason he transferred the power plant from Slovenské elektrárne to VV. At the time, the cost was estimated at €80m. More recently, Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba spoke of €230m and last week he gave an "upper estimate of €340m." In 2019, the lowest bid in a tender was €81m from a consortium led by Cedis, but VV cancelled the tender.
