Unemployment fell to an all-time low of 3.8% in October, the labor office ÚPSVR reported. The total number of job seekers, 164,000, was also the lowest since 1993. Unemployment peaked in January 2002, at 20.9%, when 564,000 people were out of work. Demographics, early retirements, and retraining projects are helping to keep unemployment low. The Right to First Job project, where the state subsidizes companies employing recent graduates, has created 1,900 jobs. The government plans to withdraw social benefits from people who reject a suitable job offer. (forbes.sk)
