Support for families for €1.2bn annually

Finance Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO) is gradually presenting his tax reform proposal. Yesterday he presented an increase in social benefits for families: a working parent will get €200 per child a month and a non-working parent €100. He wants to increase child benefit (from €26 to €30), tax bonus (from €23-46 to €70), and launch new subsidies for extracurricular (€70) and leisure (€30) activities. The costs are expected at €1.2bn per year and the funding will come from cuts in the defense budget, a new millionaire tax (0.1% per year on assets over €1m), new 29% tax on services for children and the new leisure vouchers, public sector job cuts, a higher gambling levy, cap on health insurers’ profits, and cuts in state property insurance. The coalition party Sme rodina backs the proposal, SaS is yet to respond.

Today and on Tuesday, Matovič will present changes to taxation of individuals and companies.
