Speculators bought a quarter of retail state bonds

The project of retail state bonds will continue next year, Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický said. He agreed with banks that this year and next the issue will not exceed €500m to maintain banks’ liquidity. People bought this volume in four days; the average amount invested was €22,600. People invest money in bonds that they would otherwise have deposited in banks. (teraz.sk)

                    Some 400 affluent investors bought bonds worth €130m, more than a quarter of the issue. According to analysts, they will not hold the bonds to maturity, but will sell them on the secondary market. They will earn €10-30,000 on a €1m investment in a month. Analysts recommend the state to cap the amount of the investment next time.
