Slovakia produced more malt than wheat flour for the first time
Slovakia produced more malt than wheat flour for the first time in history. While 332,000 tons of malt were produced in the 2022-23 season, flour production in Slovak mills came to 295,000 tons. One reason for this is the rising price of barley, which even tops the usually more expensive food wheat (€324 vs €308 per ton). Malt became the most important export commodity for Slovak farmers, although seven Slovak malt houses prefer domestic malt and their annual consumption comes to 370,000 tons.
