The embargo on Russian crude oil imports is not a tragedy, and Slovakia negotiated a solid result, said Economy Minister Richard Sulík. Slovakia has an unlimited exemption for using Russian oil to make fuels for the domestic market, and Slovnaft has provided a written guarantee that it will supply the Slovak market with fuels, preventing any shortages. It will be able to export fuels made from Russian oil to Czechia for another 18 months, and the embargo does not apply to exports of products other than fuels at all. Slovnaft can already operate at 70% capacity without Russian oil. Slovakia’s transition periods are the same as those negotiated by Czechia and Hungary.
